An online exhibition organized by Matthew Gantt and Miriam Arbus:

"On New Year’s Day of 1984, Nam June Paik offered his own joyful rebuttal to dystopian futures via the 24-hour broadcast Good Morning, Mr. Orwell, a live durational media event connecting the globe through electronic sound and vision. At the close of this profoundly strange year, we hope to follow suit. WebVR has opened the door to imaginative and equitable shared digital spaces, vital with new metaphor and possibility, and this year has seen the rapid development of new online venues and new international communities as a result, and you’re invited: As guest, as digital reveler, as avatar: SUPERHIGHWAY고속도로 2020

"Ende Tymes Festival is an annual event celebrating noise, experimental music, and video art. We didn't really think our name would so quickly become so horribly appropriate for contemporary reality, but Mother Nature (and corrupt politicians and fascist cops) have a way of informing you without remorse when you are in the wrong (or they say you are). We are thoroughly saddened and disgusted (but not surprised) by the recent and ongoing failures of the US federal and state governments to protect our communities from the virii of Covid and racism, to defend and justify and promote their violent and corrupt power trip (actions and legacy), to engage in a war with citizens, with vested interests that profit from conflict and harm. We march in solidarity with the families of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and so many Black Brown and Native peoples whose lives have been lost to white supremacist police brutality, and careless (exploitative) governance for communal resources. on June 6 Ende Tymes has an evening of audio/video streams which is being hosted by Experimental Sound Studio, and we will be donating the money raised to support the following: Gianna Floyd fundraiser https://www.gofundme.com/f/gianna-floyd-daughter-of-george-floyd-fund Justice for Breonna Taylor https://www.gofundme.com/f/9v4q2-justice-for-breonna-taylor I Run With Maud https://www.gofundme.com/f/i-run-with-maud Navajo Nation Covid 19 Relief https://www.gofundme.com/f/navajo-nation-covid-19-relief Brad Charles (Navajo Musician/Queertavist, maker of face masks for the community) https://alibi.com/music/38713/Electronic-Blessings.html We will present dozens of fresh recordings made by past, present, and future Ende Tymes noise artists and experimental musicians, including: John Duncan Hiroshi Hasegawa Lasse Marhaug Andrea Pensado Regression Lucas Abela Brian Chase Jim Haynes Sour Spirit Crystal Penalosa Bob Bellerue Yuki Moriyama Sunk Heaven Kjostad Street Rat JHK Whitey Alabastard Yousuke Fuyama Human Fluid Rot Dylan Marcheschi Buff Noise 1990 Hypertrophy Bobb Hatt Carbus please tune in if you are not otherwise being disposed of at 8pm June 6 on the Experimental Sound Studio twitch page: https://www.twitch.tv/experimental_sound_studio"

KHLOARIS FILMS is a production company that writes, produces, directs, animates, scores, and edits original film, television, and multimedia content. KHLOARIS also programs and hosts screening events. KHLOARIS works with filmmakers to develop, envision, and properly produce their content. KHLOARIS’s goal is to create, support, and present unusual content in a variety of mediums. KHLOARIS is Kenneth Filmer and Nouri Zander.

KHLOARIS will be curating the film and video portions of the Freak Flag Festival overall and will have a program of shorts they produced as well. The programming will run the gamut from live 16mm multi-projector presentations to a multi-media installation from a venerated NYC film workshop and journal to a living VHS museum/lounge to one very strange feature film. KHLOARIS wants to celebrate all New York underground film, from highbrow films made by academics, to no-budget trash made by scoundrels.

Freak Flag Fest brings together art, music, food and friends. Let your Freak Flag fly, and remember why we love this town. FFF is sonic, video, projection and installation art, plus awesomely discordant music loud and quiet. FFF is homemade vegan treats inspired by queer hippies. FFF is a totally legal underground rock show revival for all, from legit youth to the somewhat middle-aged. There will be chairs and drinks and inflatables. From long standing jazz artists like Cooper Moore to rock legends like Mike Watt, rap from Prince Harvey, Upper Wilds (featuring Dan Friel), and more, the festival will span and bend genres, ears, eyes and minds.

An installation from the Horror Boobs Trailer Park and a feature length film Terror Firmer from TROMA.

Food will come from the minds of the Brooklyn Kitchen founder Harry Rosenblum and chef Fred Hua from Nha Minh. Fermentation will rule the stage for the eats with dishes like dosas with dal, fresh housemade tempeh, beverages and more. Fifth Hammer Beer, Brooklyn Kura Sake, Red Hook Wine, and Brooklyn Cider House will contribute their craft beverages to the mix.

Day passes as well a whole festival pass are available - this is a weekend you don’t want to miss.

This event is being streamed live on Wave Farm’s Standing Wave Radio [link to https://wavefarm.org/listen], and recorded for future broadcast on Wave Farm's WGXC 90.7-FM [link to http://wgxc.org] in New York's Upper Hudson Valley

A contemporary of John Cage, and considered a pioneer in the field of optical sound, McClure works with customized 16mm projectors, using loops of film as the basis for his improvisations which marry patterns of synchronized light and sound. His film and live projector performances have been exhibited at numerous venues and festivals around the world, including the Rotterdam International Film Festival, the Toronto International Film Festival, the New York Film Festival’s “Views of the Avant-Garde,” the Whitney Biennial 2002 & 2004, the Walker Art Center, the Wexner Center for the Arts, as well as in the UK, Italy, Australia, and elsewhere, even landing him a spot opening for Throbbing Gristle's 2009 reunion tour. Martial Canterel’s Sean McBride is the progenitor of American cold synth sounds of the 21st Century. He began under the moniker Moravagine before he started releasing limited edition cassettes and playing Brooklyn dives as Martial Canterel in 2002. Since then, McBride’s bleak intellectual exercises in the dark and danceable have flooded North America and Europe through the frosty fairwaves paved by Pieter Schoolwerth’s Wierd Records. With an inimitable minimal style merging bright, urgent melodies ornamented and punctuated by the noises of industry and McBride’s sonorous, stern vocals, Martial Canterel’s recent releases (You Today, Refuge Underneath) have garnered both critical acclaim and a rapidly growing rabid fanbase. McBride’s influence can be heard in scores of bands in the Wierd cadre and beyond (he is also one half of the Weird Records duo Xeno and Oaklander). Through the collision of a uniquely humanistic means of production via live analogue synthcraft expertly paired with vocals and lyrics that reflect the pitfalls and pleasures of our age, Martial Canterel provides a visceral kick best felt on the dancefloor, amidst a flurry of flesh in motion. http://martialcanterel.bandcamp.com

Dylan A. Marcheschi Marcheschi is a multi-disciplinary artist who has performed and conducted workshops in New York over the past decade exploring minimalist noise and drone music, historical tuning systems, and psychoacoustics. He studied history and art at Columbia University where he spent time working and studying at the famed Computer Music Center. He’s active in a variety of fields from past work writing musical arrangements for New York’s Public Theater to most recently serving as director on an award-winning PBS documentary series. He curates the Monthly Modular Series, a long-running audio/visual showcase in Brooklyn which began as a night of exploration in analog synthesis but has grown to include all manner of improvised music and attracted internationally acclaimed artists. As a co-founder of Eastern Tapes he’s worked to release recordings from like-minded sound artists in the New York area over the past several years.

Anastasia Clarke is a New York/Oakland based composer and performer working with voice, digital signal processing, and analog tools. Her work finds form in solo performances, improvising ensembles, and sound for dance and theater. She has performed and released music as Silent Isle since 2011. Anastasia is currently an MFA candidate in Electronic Music and Recording Media at Mills College. http://soundcloud.com/silent-isle

Collin Crowe is an electronic musician, dj, promoter, a video and installation artist based in Brooklyn NY.

The Park Church Co-op presents:
Don Slepian

As a pioneer of early electronic music Slepian's work has been presented by WNYC in New York's Lincoln Center, the French Ministry of Culture in a week-long residency at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, and by the Karen Baptist Church for performances in refugee camps at the border of Burma and Thailand.

Slepian has been described as a performer of dazzling skill and versatility whose compositions rose above the haze of early American ambient music to enjoy widespread acclaim and airplay on pioneering American radio shows with his landmark album Sea of Bliss. Though he began making music in 1968 on the east coast, programming computers, building his own electronic circuits, and sculpting sound with now-primitive studio tape techniques, Slepian spent most of the 1970's living and recording in Hawaii, where among other things he was an early tester of the Internet as a member of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). During his time in Hawaii he also worked as a sales rep for Arp Synthesizers, prior to becoming Bell Labs’ Artist-In-Residence.

In many ways computer music was born in 1957 in Max Mathew's sound lab, at what was then the Bell Telephone Labs research center, with MUSIC-N. From 1979 through 1981 Slepian served as “Artist-In-Residence” at Bell Labs. Most of his time there was spent working with one of Bell Labs’ famed synthesizers, the Alles Machine (pronounced "Alice"), named after its designer Hal Alles. The Alles Machine was ultimately disassembled in 1981, with Sea of Bliss being the only full length piece of music ever realized on it. On it, Slepian captured a much more meditative side of his work, and the recording has been hailed as a masterpiece of early ambient music.

+ Ka Baird (Perfect Wave) http://www.kabaird.com Ka Baird is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist living and working in NYC. She is one of the founding and continuing members of the long running avant psych project Spires That In The Sunset Rise. Described by Jack Rose as a "female Sun City Girls," STITSR have contributed a different slant to the New Folk movement by incorporating various avant-garde and world music influences into their music. Since relocating to NYC in November 2014, Baird has set off in numerous directions apart from Spires with new collaborations as well as honing in on her own solo work. Her current work explores piano improvisation, electroacoustic interventions, extended vocal techniques, physical movement, and her unusual electronic manipulation of the flute. She has toured extensively both nationally and internationally with performances at the Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago), MoMA PS1, Roulette Intermedium, Cafe OTO (London) and numerous festival appearances with Spires including TUSK (Newcastle, UK), Incubate (Tilburg, Netherlands), and Festival Of Endless Gratitude (Copenhagen, DK). She also co-runs the label and concert organizer Perfect Wave with Camilla Padgitt-Coles.

+ Dylan A. Marcheschi (Eastern Tapes) https://soundcloud.com/dylanmarcheschi Marcheschi is a multi-disciplinary artist who has performed and conducted workshops in New York over the past decade exploring minimalist noise and drone music, historical tuning systems, and psychoacoustics. http://michaeljschumacher.com/
Hans Tammen creates sounds that have been described as an alien world of bizarre textures and a journey through the land of unending sonic operations. He creates rapid-fire juxtapositions of radically contrastive and fascinating noises, with micropolyphonic timbres and textures, aggressive sonic eruptions, but also quiet pulses and barely audible sounds. "One of improvised music’s most fascinating proponents" and "an innovative avant-garde guru." - All About Jazz

Sound artist, instrument designer, and collaborator of LaMonte Young and Charles Curtis, "Schumacher...allows sounds rather than their source to hold the attention, and his results are outstanding." - The Wire

++ Jonas Bers
www.jonasbers.wordpress.com
Based in the Hudson Valley of upstate New York, Jonas Bers works with video and sound in the noise and DIY aesthetic; using improvised electronic and electroacoustic instruments, video installation and projection, feedback loops, circuit bending, glitch, drone, recursive images, and video as a sonic medium. In his recent process, obsolete video equipment is modified for use as performance instrumentation through interaction with a homebuilt modular synthesizer. Functions of discarded editing machines are automated in realtime to project synchronized monochromatic patterns and pseudo three-dimesional geometric environments. Audible frequencies within the analog video signal are amplified into a corresponding synesthetic score.

Lily Jue Sheng makes moving image art using film, video, sound, and recently live performance. She uses various methods of recording, algorithms, and improvisation to convey relationships between environment, machine, and creator/spectator. Her work examines contemporary image culture’s subliminal nature, with the belief that cinematic language is key to unconscious potential. Sheng’s optically labor-intensive style applies collage, still motion, superimposition, macroscopic scale, pixilation, and multi-projection to her diaristic and often ethnographic observations.

++ Matthew Azevedo
http://retributionbody.bandcamp.com/
Matthew Azevedo is a musician, audio engineer, teacher, and acoustician currently based in Boston whose performance practice is centered on creating unique, immersive sound environments. His primary solo project Retribution Body uses analog electronics, high amplification, and a custom speaker array capable of reproducing subsonic energy to explore the mental and emotional states which arise in Zen meditation. His most recent album as Retribution Body, Aokigahara, was released by Type Records in 2015 and was included on many year-end “best of” lists.
